Rep. Melanie Stambaugh's first bill passed by House
After some friendly hazing from fellow colleagues, Rep. Melanie Stambaugh saw her first bill pass the House unanimously.
House Bill 1316 would help prevent abuse of the elderly, and amend the law to ensure vulnerable adults are protected by temporary protection orders.
"There is a serious oversight in current law, where those who are susceptible to abuse are not protected. This would require a police officer to make an arrest when the officer has probable cause to believe there has been a violation of temporary protective orders relating to vulnerable adults," said Stambaugh, R-Puyallup.
"This bill is a critical step in preventing abuse of the elderly, and I was happy to see it pass the House unanimously."
The proposal now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
